Action Team Captain Michela Moe |
You make a difference in your community when you get involved as a volunteer. And volunteering can benefit you! Find out how from Maui Action Team Captain Michela Moe. Like all captains of the Players Trust and Volunteers of America Action Team, Michela recruits other teens to participate in service projects at school and in the community.

I volunteer because …
I love the feeling I get after completing a service project. I may be dirty or tired, but I helped someone or something in need. The community and the earth continually give to us – we must give back. I believe that “We must be the change we wish to see in the world,” as Gandhi said.
I joined the Action Team because …
It’s a way I can better my school and better myself at the same time. I’m very dedicated to improving my school and the more “additions” I can add to my high school resume, the stronger it is.
What inspires me about Major League baseball players who support the Action Team …
The fact that Major League players give their time to organizations, like children in need.
How volunteering with the Action Team benefits me …
I know I am helping people and making a difference – something we should do every day of our lives.
How I benefit my community as an Action Team Captain and volunteer …
I benefit others through the work I do, the people I recruit to help out, and the money I raise to support local organizations.
As an Action Team Captain, what I tell other teens to encourage them to volunteer …
I tell them to volunteer because it’s fun! You usually get to work with your friends and you get to help people, animals, forests….The possibilities are endless and there are always ways to make volunteering more enjoyable. You just have to think.
My favorite volunteer activities …
Helping animals and children. I love kids. They’re so much fun to be around, and the same with animals. Both truly warm your heart.
My volunteer goals for this school year …
I want to improve and beautify my school campus and to implement a recycling program at my school as well. I am currently involved in a volunteer project to help out local vet clinics and animal shelters. I also hope to raise more money for the American Cancer Society through our Relay for Life event. Any volunteer opportunities that come my way, I’ll take on!
What’s in my iPod …
A huge variety – from world genre music to the latest rap songs on the radio stations, even some country. I love 80’s and pop music and local Hawaiian music, including some alternative. I love music, and usually have a song I love from every genre.
My favorite baseball player …
I support Shane Victorino as he is a graduate from my school and was responsible for getting us involved in the Action Team.
